The list of unique ingredients that each student brought to class Friday seemed to go on forever!

French-Fried Onions: Potato Flakes: Milo (from New Zealand):

You usually would not see these ingredients added to a waffle anyone would order in a restaurant, but here they were, piled on top of the waffle I was going to eat as part of our beginning of the year ritual in our classroom.

Salad Dressing: Lucky Charms Cereal: Tortilla:

You see, our class is different. Each person in our room has a unique talent, personality and strength. Each person also has something that they struggle through every day, an activity that they worry about getting done, and what reputation they will have as the school year continues.

Ketchup: 1 Slice Granny Smith Apple: 1 Tin Sardines:

1 Whole Red Apple: One Pouch JalapeƱo Peppers: Smoked Oysters (juice only):

This year will take special effort both on my part as their teacher, and on their part as students, to encourage excellence. Traveling backward in time, Jeopardy games, and preparing for classroom visitors all take time and research to happen.

I know the work will be worth it.

Just like the reaction that I will experience from the Class of 2014 when I take my first bite of our Unique Waffle.
